My story of Rigorous Honesty

When I picked up my 18 month chip at my 2nd AA meeting back in feb, I had no idea about the tradition of Rigorous Honesty. I also had no idea that smoking pot was considered by most AA's as a violation of sobriety.

During the last 5 months, I have had several discussions with members of my fellowship about the fact that I smoked pot for the first 5 months of my sobriety and it was suggested that I reset my sobriety date. So tonight, at our weekly chip meeting, I came clean to a crowd of about 50 people. It was very special because one of the 6 guys who gave me his phone number at my first meeting was there and the chairperson was my friend who also happens to be my Dr.

It felt really good to stand in front of the room and get my 18 month chip back in my hand. I can now hold it without any reservations or guilt.

So I have reset my sobriety date to 1/2/13 and look forward to picking up my 2 year chip on my belly button birthday at the end of January.

I want to send out a very large THANK YOU to all you fine folks here at SR who have played a HUGE part in my successful struggle to stay sober.

I've got mixed feelings on the medicinal marihuana .
If you were using it for pain as opposed to taking some prescription drugs .

On a couple occasions I've taken pain medication prescribed to me. I took it as it was prescribed and not to over medicate myself .
Hope, you can get some relief for your back problems.

Thank you everyone.

While it is true that the pot helped me deal with pain, in my case it was just an excuse to abuse it by smoking from the time I woke up till I went to bed EVERY day. Going through an ounce every couple weeks is not medicinal, IMHO, it was addiction.

I also have some very strong evidence that it was playing a big role in causing my anxiety and panic attacks. Since I have been clean, those problems have disappeared entirely.

There is no going back now as I am DETERMINED to live the rest of my life clean and sober.

As a pot addict who had three years of pain from herniated disc and finally surgery, I look back and suspect it made the pain worse. I can't really know for sure. Smoking it all day every day helped to numb my mind while I was bed ridden but it probably made me think more negatively about my situation and my pain. I have a feeling that for me, a bit now and then might have helped but the chronic habit did not.
