I have never heard this. I have heard - and personally experienced - that it doesn't take long to get right back to where I was before, volume-wise. In other words I could not moderate my drinking after a respectable period of sobriety.

Not true at all. I "quit" many times over a 10-15 year period, often for 30 days or more. Over that timespan, while unable to remain sober, my consumption was significantly reduced, even when I did drink.

Doubtful. Not sure where you heard this, but stick with medical facts when possible.

Kindling effect is what worries me. Withdrawal being worse/more dangerous each relapse.

So, about a 1/2 pint. Wouldn't have even made my gauge twitch. If you don't stop drinking you are going to need a liver transplant.

Well, alcohol dependency by it's nature is progressive.

I started with a couple.

The longer you stay in it the more you drink.

So eventually you will be drinking at least double what you are now, and likely much more than that.

And the first drink is the one to avoid...alcoholics don't quit at one - and the increasing amounts will kill you at some point.

The double thing is not true in my case. After 4 1/2 months sober, I could get wasted on one. We are all different.

Not true in the least. I quit and went back to drinking numerous times over my 26 year drinking career and the quantity I drank in a 24 hour period never increased.

Problem is it didn't decrease either...

Definitely experienced that and don't want to ever again. I continued to drink mostly just to avoid the withdrawal.

Hi Sameer

I think that's someonee's interpretation of 'when an alcoholic returns to drinking, it's like he never stopped'.

Some folks believe that, others don't.

I certainly believe we build up a tolerance, That's not a good thing.

You don't seem to be doing too well tho. Whats your recovery plan?

If you never drink again, you never have to worry about finding out whether it's true or not Sameer
