Irritable and up tight

Hi everyone! I'm just starting day 6 and I'm doing ok...except in the evenings (times when I'd usually be having a few drinks). Any little thing that happens after around 7 or 8pm is likely to drive me crazy. It's not really fair on my family and holding my breath and counting up to 10 doesn't seem to help at all! I guess this will pass. Hoping so!!! Any tips for for the meantime?! I think I (and everyone around me) would really appreciate it!!!

Great job on Day 6!!

For me I needed to plan new activities into my evenings, simply sitting thinking about drinking wasn't a good idea, what do you want to achieve with your newfound Sober evenings?

You can do this!!

Hi amp - Congrats on 6 days. Emotions are all over the place in early sobriety especially at those trigger times. I still have to pay attention to it now at almost 9 months. It does get better, but it takes time. Give it time and in the meantime, I found making sure I wasn't hungry or thirsty at that time of day helped. Also, distract yourself...go for a walk, turn on some music, read a book, watch tv or a movie, login to SR, etc. Stick with it, the benefits you and your family will receive will far outweigh this "crazy" period.

Congrats on day 6. Someone told me powdered glutamin in a drink like tang. Dont know if its placebo, but it seems to help. Keep it up.

Remember to avoid the triggers of HALT. Hungry, angry, lonely, tired. Good luck.
