2nd Attempt to Stop Drinking

Hi all,
I was able to stop for 6 weeks prior to last Christmas but unfortunately the holiday season took hold and I fell back into my old routines. After a couple of nasty exchanges with my family after too many drinks recently, I'm motivated again to try to quit drinking for good. I don't want to turn into my alcoholic Mom who was a mean drunk for years. Hope this forum will help! 3rd day and counting.....

3 days is a great start.

We can help but, we can't make you come here. You have to do that. When the craving hits, get a bowl of ice cream and log in. Someone's here 24/7/365.

Hello and welcome.
What did you do when you quit the first time? Can you do it again?
You've found a great place for support. And remember, you never have to drink again.
Best to you.

I turn into a belligerent and obnoxious fool when drunk. Don't know why I act like such an a-hole because sober I am laid-back and quiet. Unfortunately, many people close to me have been on the receiving end of drunken tirades. Don't know where the anger comes from.

Welcome Anchorhold! i'm only on day 8 but I wouldn't have been able to make it this far without the people and experiences that are shared here at SR.

Three days is a great start!

Best of luck!

I drank a lot of nice herbal teas and flavoured seltzer waters instead of alcohol and did reward myself sometimes with a nice dessert :-) When I had anxiety attacks (usually between the hours of 4-8pm when I'd usually start drinking), I'd walk the dogs and try to divert my thoughts with a good book or hobby. Like now .....

Long walks saved me in the early days, too!

Good for you for 3 days sober.

I know where some of my anger comes from -- dealing with the onset of full on menopause and raising two teenaged daughters....doh!
