Need some help quickly.

ITs been about 40 hours without a drink and the DT are setting in hard. My question is simple can I buy some beer and make this stop or should I go to the ER? Can I taper off or should I go get some help now?

My suggestion would be to go to the ER if you are concerned. Buying more beer might help tonight, but then if you try to stop again, you'll just go through the same thing.

After this, you should go see your regular doctor and tell him what's going on and that you're trying to quit drinking. He can help you.

Hang in there. You can do this!

I am still early in recovery - but have read a lot here about withdrawing... You should go to the ER right now if you are suffering from the DT's. Take care of yourself!!!

Yes, please do get medical attention - drinking now, will only prolong things and you'll have to go through this all again. Please let us know how you're getting on

The DT's are nothing to mess with as they can be fatal.

Please, seek medical attention.

I went to the ER when I was in that situation. They were able to give me fluids to hydrate me and give me meds to help with the shaking and detox. I tried tapering and it wasn't working. I'm happy I went when I did.

Good luck to you

I believe you are in acute withdrawal, not having DTs. DT stands for delirium tremens not detox, and if you were suffering from DTs you would most likely be unable to even carry on a coherent conversation, let alone post on a forum.

All that said, I am not Dr. Please go see a Dr., he/she will measure your vitals, then most likely prescribe meds to help deal with the withdrawal symptoms. In my case they kept me several days until I was stabilized. This will be much more comfortable for you and when you get out you'll have a great jump on sobriety.

Thanks yall. I ended getting driven to my step fathers house who is a nurse and recovered addict to see if he could help me or need be he could take me to the ER (wanted to see if I could get free help before a massive ER bill). He checked all my vitals and gave me some stuff to lower my blood pressure and pulse and some Vitamin B. Then he went out and got me a 40. THe combination of all that seemed to work out. After a bout 20 minuets I got my senses back, regained feeling in my face and the cold sweats stopped. Im going to head back over there today and hes going to keep checking me while I taper off.

Glad you got some help Eric, but keep in mind that by drinking again you basically just reset then withdrawal clock until you stop again. Tapering is sometimes recommended by doctors in the UK, but then practice rarely works. The problem is that even if you somehow manage to taper down ( which is essentially controlling your drinking....nearly impossible for a true alcoholic ) you still have to quit at some point...and withdrawals can still be just as severe. I'd also check with your normal doc on whatever drugs your FIL gave you in combination with alcohol. Just be safe...as you experienced the withdrawal can become severe quickly

They hit me really bad again today so I made a few calls after fighting/struggling through and am going to find a bed to get this done safely. I've tried getting sober before but man never felt anything like this which scares the hell out of me.
