Sober songs

Tonight I heard the new Ariana Grande song... "I got one less problem without you..." And thought of vodka.

What other songs help you not drink? I want to make a playlist for all of us.

Great idea...the song that comes to mind for me is "Try" by Pink. I think she's talking about a partner / boyfriend but I can easily imagine it's about my relationship with alcohol....and even though it's hard and hurts in the beginning of recovery I just need to keep trying.

Ever wonder about what he's doing
How it all turned to lies
Sometimes I think that it's better to never ask why
Where there is a desire there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try try try
Gotta get up and try try try.
You gotta get up and try try try

Funny how the heart can be deceiving
More than just a couple times
Why do we fall in love so easy
Even when it's not right
Where there is a desire there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame someones bound to get burned
But just because it burns
Doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try try try
Gotta get up and try try try

Ever worried that it might be ruined
And does it make you wanna cry?
When you're out there doing what you're doing
Are you just getting by?
Tell me are you just getting by by by

Where there is desire
There is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame
Someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns
Doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try try try
Gotta get up and try try try

I hear this song the other day. It was popular back in the 80's on Canadian radio by a powerful little singer named Luba who I don't think found any success State-side. I've heard it a million times and I'm sure I had the album..but the other day the lyrics rang out with whole new meaning for me:

It has been raining
for so long
I have been praying
for a break in the storm
but in the thunder
I hear your name
and it takes me under
underneath all this pain
and I've got to get on with my life
but I don't know how
tell me...

how many rivers to cross
how many crosses to bear
how many miles till I get there
without you
I have been waiting
for so long
now this woman is saying
she can't wait anymore
no sound of thunder
no threat of rain
can keep me under
underneath all this pain
and I've got to get on with my life
but I don't know how
please tell me

how many rivers to cross
how many crosses to bear
how many miles till I get there
