Lasted for a few months withe me, but then it eased, what else are you doing other than not drinking? . . . I found getting plenty of sleep, exercise, healthy food, in other words looking after my body seemed to have a knock on effect to my emotions/feelings.

Welcome to the Forum and great job on 6 Weeks!!

Hi dhw.

Proud of you for your 6 weeks. Like Purpleknight, it took me about 3 mos. to start feeling calmer. I wasn't as anxious as you describe though - maybe you could check with your doctor? Getting used to our new way of living isn't easy - but it will all settle down. Glad to have you with us.

Congratulations on 6 weeks sober.

Have you thought about trying meditation? It can be hard to settle into it, but it's very helpful.

Dhw8888, for me it was 4 to 6 months. What help me was a bicycle I bought and I rode it often during that period. Got my mind off anxiety. I really wouldn't call it exercise either. I rode it where I live on flat ground in circles around my downtown neighborhood. It became boring. But thats the objective. It was something other than drinking. Before you know it you won't care about alcohol. And you won't be afraid of people and things or situations. You will live a alcohol free life. 6 weeks is great. Just continue on. Your almost over the hump. Trust me.
