white knuckling it

Hi. I'm new here and i'm stuggling tonight like totally white knuckling it:a108:

I have a little over 8 months of being in recovery but i'm just having a hard time tonight. Not quite sure what it is it might be because it's the 4th of july weekend and i really struggle with that.

Don't let go, the urge will pass, and remember urges can't hurt you. I suggest a saying a simple, but heartfelt "NO!" and turning your mind to something else. Rinse and repeat as necessary. I would also suggest going to sleep; your urges will almost certainly be gone by tomorrow morning.

How long have you been sober AH? Any idea what's eating at ya that you think a drink will fix? What's going on?

Oh geez..just saw your other post.

You have some sobriety muscle behind you at 8 months. What is it about 4th of July? Are you wanting a drink to "celebrate" or "escape".

Wish you the best of luck.
What are you going to do about this problem of yours?

Welcome alcoholly :)
Lots of support and understanding here.

It took me a little time to accept I could have fun staying sober. I had 20 years if telling myself that alcohol was fun and made things good - but it didn't.

You know that or you wouldn't have stopped.

You be bombarded with crazy notions about you being the only person in the world not drinking, everyone is out having fun and you're missing out, or that maybe a few won't hurt and you'll go back to being sober tomorrow....

don't fall for any of it. Play that mental tape right through to the end. Remind yourself exactly where drinking has taken you and will take you again.

you can do this - you'll be so happy with your self getting through this weekend sober :)
