For all who wonder if the cravings get easier

It's been over a year and I just had my run in with the AV. The question gets asked if the cravings get easier and I think I came up with a good way to describe it. Of course this will depend on your depth of the relationship you had. That and commitment to recovery.

In the beginning it's the loss of a true love. A friendship that you pine for and think about constantly.

When you were growing up did you ever have a little sibling or someone who was nothing than a royal pain in the butt? That's the AV when you get further out. You even wonder what the point if it being around is because it's just a big waste of time.

In the beginning it's a painful ache. After time passes it's just an annoying pain in the butt who shows up infrequently just to irritate you.

I agree.
As you get further out it becomes that annoying sibling best ignored.
With one word of caution.
From experience i know that one day there is a knock on the door.
You answer it, and its your long lost estranged sibling that you had almost forgotten about.
And he wants money, a place to stay and to tell you that you are a worthless nothing and never will amount to anything.....
And your heart sinks and you start to tremble.
And you know just why you have put all the hard work into your recovery as you gently close the door.....
For just such an eventuality.

There even comes a point in sobriety where many people find that they rarely experience cravings. My last drink was on March 24 of this year and i haven't had a craving since. And i'm a dyed in the wool alcoholic. I never ever, ever thought it would be possible but so far, it is!

Hi. Fortunately it’s been a lot of years since my last desire, or other word describing wanting to drink. What does happen occasionally is out of the blue a thought of a drink, I never had will pop up and I wonder what that tastes like. HUH? Where did that come from I wonder.
CUNNING, BAFFLING AND POWERFUL!

Thank you for this, LadyBlue. As I enter month #2 of recovery, I have been contemplating this very question. I have occasionally had strong cravings that come out of nowhere. Though, in the last few days, they have been much easier to deal with.
