I think sometimes we know we are in a pot, but also fear "out of the pan into the fire", sometimes boiling slowly in the pot seems less scary than jumping into what we think is fire.
That's why we need people here to cheer us on..."come on frog..jump, you may get your toes scorched in fire, but then you will be over it and on your way to the pond"

Thank you D
The frog in boiling water is one of those stories that gets passed around, SW. It's of doubtful scientific validity but the image is a powerful one.
I gave the book and author at the end of the original quote
Decide Better! For A Better Life
Improve Your Life Through Better Decisions
by Michael E. Mcgrath [chapter 1]
I just found this one day on the' net...I haven't read the book but it sounds like a good read
Decide Better! For a Better Life by Michael E. McGrath ? Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

When I was young I didn't say to myself, "I want to be a late stage alcohol who is physically dependent on alcohol, hurts the ones he loves, screws up his career, has a horrible marriage, and almost dies of alcoholism."
I didn't get as bad as I did in a day. The disease progressed oh so slowly. Each day and year being worse than the one before with alcohol constantly whispering in my ear, "Your not that bad and if you have to you can quit tomorrow if you want to. Tomorrow after tomorrow came and went but I never wanted to.
The water was almost boiling and even then I did not have sense to jump out. I ended up withdrawing from alcohol by accident and had to be rushed to the ER. The doc said I got lucky
It was only then I could see I was in a pot of boiling water and decided a nice cool pond was a much better place to live

It's a great topic and I pulled a lot from it for sure.........I think we've all been that frog from time to time. As in business, there is a life cycle to situations jobs, events, happenings etc. There is a time to get in and a time to get out. The obvious issue is when.
For me the consequences = the water getting pretty warm but not boiling yet, hot water - had to happen before I was able to jump with regards to alcohol.
There' a lot of great stuff to share in this and McGrath is a brilliant decision maker/motivator with extraordinary professional credentials.
I have to say the bit about global warming seems agenda based and I am not in on that program.........I will respectfully state I will not address politics but agree to disagree

Glad you bumped that up!
I recently made two big changes that kept me from being stuck in a boiling pot. (changing jobs and finally ending a relationship) Sometimes it takes a little while to acknowledge that the water is uncomfortable but eventually, I do know when to jump!

Oh, The Frog is back!
This is where I heard the metaphor first, along with some other stories:
Invaluable Lessons from A Frog: Seven Life-Enhancing Metaphors by Olivier Clerc, Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona:
Olivier Clerc (the author) also has another book that is interesting in the context of recovery, The Gift of Forgiveness (see also on Amazon).
