Good news...but how do i celebrate?

Yesterday I was told the great news that I'm getting my job back .
Despite being on sick leave for the past 6 months, against the odds my employer is willing to give me another chance.
What a relief. I felt like jumping up and down with happiness. Later on calling my friends and family to share how well things went. Wow was I in a party mood! And then that flat feeling....what the heck am I going do now?

This is something I've struggled with a few times. Don't get me wrong - I'm very grateful to be sober. I really appreciate all the support that has got me to this point and never want to go back to the way my life was when alcohol was in charge...what a car crash that was. But I do miss that lovely feeling of anticipation of a big celebration.

Any thoughts?:help

That's fantastic news!!

I was at my sister's wedding 2 weeks ago, being from N.Ireland, you'll know all about Irish weddings and the flood gates of alcohol at them, anyhow I celebrated with my family Sober.

There are other ways to celebrate, we just need to find what works for us, maybe order pizza or a take away, spent time with family etc!!

I go and do something for myself. Get together with sober friends, go to a movie, buy something. I had to figure the same things when I got sober. There are a lot of things to do without alcohol. Just remember that being sober is what got you here. That's what I remember. If I wasn't there wouldn't be anything to celebrate.

Why is it only drinkers associate celebrating with alcohol. If the joy of getting your job back isn't enough, and you require an outward expression of said joy...buy a cake!

have a party. just don't drink alcohol.

CELEBRATE!!!

Just don't do it by pouring poison down your throat.

Invite over friends, host a BBQ, take someone out to dinner, go on a vacation, have a drum circle, organize a get-together, do any of the things you might 'normally' do involving alcohol - but just don't drink.

Incredibly, it turns out, alcohol is not needed in order to be jovial and celebratory!

I feel you, I am celebrating 90 days this Saturday. I'm sober and I'm also eating really healthfully (food for me was really a co-addiction with alcohol). It's great and I'm so proud that I'm doing well, but it's also a big adjustment to figure out ways to celebrate without a mood lifting substance being part of it. We have fireworks left over from last 4th of July, maybe I will set some off.

Congrats on your job!

I has a counselor tell me once that the time we started using/drinking is the age that we stopped maturing. He said we needed to go back and remember all the dreams and plans we had then and what were the things we enjoyed doing. This has helped me a lot because now I enjoy so many 'other' things that I never would have thought about while drinking.

Celebrations are FUN now and I actually get to remember them : ) I bet you can think of a special, unique way to celebrate the wonderful news. Let us know what you come up with!!! And congrats on getting the job back!

Thanks everyone.
I love doing lots of stuff....bbq's (with beer), meals out (with wine), watching the football or having friends round (with anything).
I guess I just need to drop the alcohol part, it will just feel strange to party and NOT have a hangover the next day
Purpleknight well done on getting through the wedding sober...that was a true test for ya!
Moosetracks ice cream - now that does sound good

I'd celebrate with some new clothes hahah but that's just me!
there's so many ways you can celebrate this SANS BOOZE. Create new kinds of celebrations that just don't involve alcohol.

If desperate I could always take up Rock Paper Scissors, they even have a World Championship, I kid you not!

Heres a review of the 2008 Finals:
Monica Martinez, who outlasted over 700 other competitors over the course of nearly 24 straight hours. Even as the competition kept stiffening and people began losing stamina (and, presumably, their sanity), Monica kept winning. By the end, she'd built up a following in the (surprisingly enthusiastic for 2 a.m.) crowd like Rocky at the end of Rocky IV, the crowd embracing the madness and cheering her on as she went into her final match.

Or maybe not...

I celebrated six months of sobriety by purchasing myself a riding lawn mower.

Relaxing massage? Take yourself to the movies? Dinner? Pedicure (I know you're a guy but they don't have to put any polish!)

Temerau they all sound nice although I'm a bit concerned that the pedicure may be habit forming for us Irish blokes
