What a difference 12 hours can make. Unfortunately I got my a$$ kicked off that cloud this afternoon. Reality came crashing down on me. I lost a friend today ... by his own hand. I feel absolutely devastated, but the good thing is I do not even want to drink. I grieved with his family for most of the afternoon, then excused myself so I could catch the last bit of a meeting ... because I needed to go. I wasn't craving or thinking about drinking, but I had to go. I had to be there for the Serenity Prayer that we say at the end of the meeting.
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change.

So tired but can't sleep. I haven't had insomnia like this since the first few nights of withdrawal. I can't seem to shut my brain down and obsessive thinking makes me nervous ... I know what it used to lead to. So here I am, hanging out at 230 am.
It's a natural reaction I think Hokey.

There's some very good stickies in our Grief and Loss forum. I hope you'll look at them- when you're ready.

Pink cloud or not, you sound great! Congratulations on 30 days!!
Sorry, I posted the above before reading your additional post about losing a friend. So sorry to hear about that. Truly devastating...

Thanks everyone. I am thankful to be sober ... as a sober friend, I can help support the family through this tragedy ... as a drunk, I would be all but useless. And perhaps my own experience with darkness and desperation might just allow me to help them understand a little bit the pit that he was in when he made that decision. There will be anger, that's for sure, and perhaps I can help deflect that a bit. For now I must stay strong and be there for them in whatever capacity they need. And keep my own focus where it needs to be ... working on my sobriety. Thanks again for your words of support ... I know where to turn when I need help.
