Give up the Ghost!!
Give up the Ghost!!
I came across this song the other day, I was stuck in traffic and the tune came on the radio, it's been stuck in my mind ever since, I couldn't help but read into it the metaphor off alcoholism:
How many times have I sought help, trying to change, fix my addiction, in the end I was almost praying to take away the pain.
How many of us upon becoming Sober have stayed awake, thinking, feeling, trying to forget, trying to escape from our addictions!!
Others saw my addiction, and they hinted to me about the dangers and their concern, but sure enough I ignored them, I knew best, right?
Becoming Sober, meant looking my addiction in the eye, staring it into the face and saying no more, no longer will my life be controlled by you!!
When I first discovered alcohol, it was great, gave me everything I wanted, but it lied, never told me of the destruction it would cause to my life!!
It's time to to give up the ghost of who I was, the addict, start living my own life!
Here is the song:
I keep going to the river to pray
'Cos I need something that can wash out the pain
'Cos I need something that can wash out the pain
And at most
I'm sleeping all these demons away
But your ghost, the ghost of you
It keeps me awake
I'm sleeping all these demons away
But your ghost, the ghost of you
It keeps me awake
My friends had you figured out
Yeah they saw what's inside of you
You tried hiding another you
But your evil was coming through
Yeah they saw what's inside of you
You tried hiding another you
But your evil was coming through
I had to go through hell to prove I'm not insane
Had to meet the devil just to know his name
And that's when my love was burning
Yeah it's still burning
Had to meet the devil just to know his name
And that's when my love was burning
Yeah it's still burning
Oh you never told me
True love was gonna hurt
True pain I don't deserve
Truth is that I never learned
True love was gonna hurt
True pain I don't deserve
Truth is that I never learned
Give up the ghost
Here is the song:
Great post, PK. And a great song too. I just downloaded it. Best 99 cents I will spend today.
I wasn't sure why I had never heard of Ella Henderson before. Then I learned that she is, *gulp*, 18 years old. (I think I have a jar of mustard in my fridge that is nearly that old.) "Ghost" is Henderson's first song and was released only 2 weeks ago. I understand that it is already #1 in the UK.
