Angry If your trying to quit I sure understand

Ive been a heavy hitter for 20 years. A quart to 1.75 liters of liquor everyday not to mention weekends. I was fun for a long time, then as my friends dried up and went away and I cant hold a decent relationship together and now fatty liver to the point it hurts. Regular liver fuction is 40-50 mine came up 347 and pain under right rib cage. I've had five beers in three weeks. Dont think thats to bad.... Anyway I've tryed and failed before but with death stairing me in the face, well lets just say its feels differant this time.

Welcome to SR Kepeb

Is the object for you to try and keep moderating or quit entirely?

Welcome Kep...
I'd say it's time you made some new friends (we're some pretty cool cats ya know)...and started making new choices.
Time for a change my friend.

Welcome! I had a liver test and it was in the mid to high 200s. I quit drinking and 3 or 4 weeks later they ran the test again. High normal! The body is absolutely amazing.

I understand that you're cutting back. Most people find that attempting to moderate does not end well. Some people can moderate for a while, some can't. In the end, the vast majority of us find ourselves drinking like we had been. Sometimes worse. If you continue to try out moderation, just be sure that you always have the humility to give it up if things get out of hand. There's no shame in that. I tried my hand at moderation but I'm really, really, really, EPICALLY bad at it. No one berated me when I came back. I got a few knowing smiles though.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer. I just want to give an honest share. Whatever happens, stick around here. We're pretty good people.

Ive tryed for years to moderate, change my drink, the usual stuff your mind feeds you when you know you need to quit but dont want to. Like I said I've had five beers in three weeks. I've subbed in green tea and other non-alcoholic beverages. I have found that this helps. I think some of it is just i'm use to lifting that arm over and over. If I get too board or wanting that buzzed or drunk feeling i just take a shower and go to bed. Works for now but I sure spend alot of time in bed.

Not much other than good luck. She quit three weeks ago. The day I put down the drink. After eight years of seeing her and being told this would be the last and buy the way if you dont change, your liver is going to kill you, well I just dident know what to say...

I think so far you are doing really well.
You sound ready to make the change so that's great.
We are all here to support you and we will as much as we can.
I always make sure I have a cold drink in the fridge be it pop or water it just gets rid of the urge.
I always have a hot chocolate on a night as a bit of a reward plus it settles me down.
your body will start to feel so much better soon and so will you.
This is the best thing that you will ever do and always remember you are not alone in this xxx

Welcome to SR, kepeb30. Sounds like time for a change, for sure. I was in a similar situation when I found this place.

Great to have you with us.

I did this too. When I stopped trying to do that is when I finally realized I was an alcoholic and in reality had not business trying to continue to do this. I was beating my head against a wall hoping a window would appear. It won't.

Quitting and learning a new way to live was the only way that worked for me.

I cannot control it, I never could control it so I stopped trying.
