Clarity 11 days sober

My last drink was Friday, 6/6. I've known my drinking was problematic for the last five years and have gone through periods of limiting consumption (drinking only on weekends, drinking daily but limiting to only 2 drinks, drinking every other day, only weekends and special occasions, etc.) Inevitably, I lose control and I binge and drink more and more.

Saturday 6/7 I woke up and realized I can never drink alcohol again. I work in health care and know firsthand what alcohol does to the brain and body and I firmly believe if I continue on this path, I will die. My feelings have run the gamut from being devastated to feeling very much at peace with the decision. On day 11, I'm feeling amazingly clear and hopeful. I've been reading these boards since Saturday and am learning so much through your stories so thank you!

Same, day 11. I feel the same way, at peace and in good health compared to a couple weeks ago. Like you, I realized that I would die young if I kept on my previous path, the booze was killing me, and that I can never drink again.
