First Day

So today is day one of being sober. Had my first drink when I was 11. Was always a binge drinker in high school and college but the last year or so my drinking started to get out of control. Been drinking 12-18 beers a day for the last year or so. My non drinking days stared to dwindle. Started to drink earlier and earlier. Now I'm 80lbs over weight. I have put my wife through a lot primarily having a drunk for a husband. Not having a lot of craving today just really down in the dumps. I'm sure that's part of it. I start seeing a counselor on Wednesday. Start taking abusanal tomorrow so we shall see.

Welcome Olometal. I was a daily beer drinker too, you've made a great decision. Sounds like a good plan to see a counselor too, not exactly sure what abusanal is but if it's prescriebed to help you with getting sober that's great too! Don't be a stranger.

Hey olometal!! Welcome to the Forum!!

It all starts with a Day 1, but with time it gets better and better, your body needs time to heal and adjust so mood swings will happen until things level themselves out!!

Keep pushing through, you'll find loads of support here on SR!!

Welcome, olometal Quitting drinking should certainly help you lose weight, but don't be afraid to reach for sugary snacks if you get cravings. Overall, you'll probably be taking in far fewer calories than before

Good for you for seeing a counsellor too. Hope it goes well

I was a 12 beer a day drinker for a few years. Gained about 50 lbs. I looked as bad as I felt. You're going to have to stop drinking and clear your head for some perspective. You'll be miserable for a few weeks but look ahead 6 months and picture yourself 30 lbs lighter and waking up without a hangover.

Antabuse is the drug I start tomorrow. Doc on gave me a 2 week script so won't be on it long. Hoping since the drink is going away my Effexor will start kicking in more as well.

yes that's what I'm hoping. I have my heavy bag in the garage and an elliptical. This whole fat thing doesn't work for me.
