Holy Crap
If that was a grand total, you got by pretty cheap.
Just my last accident alone not counting the many accidents before that was around 100 thousand dollars although I will admit that my insurance paid for most of it.
Can't remember now, but when I totaled my lifetime monies spent on drinking and other things it was some insane amount. Yes, it would have easily paid for a small house.
Adding up the figures helps us to see where we were very foolish and wasteful, causing one to be grateful that they are sober today.
Not to lay the guilt trip on anyone but how much money have we stolen from our families due to monies spent on booze and other drugs ?

The math is simple $6.24 (fifth of cheap vodka) X 365 days X 5 years. In reality it is 4 years and almost 11 months. That does not count the days I drank more or any of the bar bills

If I ONLY drank 1 bottle of wine a day (cheap 2 buck chuck at $3.31 including tax) I would save $1208.15 a year. In reality, I usually had about 10 bottles a week and usually also a box, which would total $2327.00 per year. Of course that is a very conservative estimate! I usually drank more than that, especially the last few years. What really is mind boggling is if I count the $9000.0 for the lawyer who took my DUI case knowing that there was no way I'd win, the $1500.00 attorney fee for getting me out of the driving after suspension charge, $940.00 fine for the DUI charge when I had to plead guilty, $300.00 for the mandatory alcohol program to get my license back, $90.00 reinstatement fee, $360.00 for alcohol dependence counseling ordered by the court in order to get my license back, $200.00 towing fee for my car, $80.00 a year increase in my insurance rate, $980.00 copay for my inpatient detox, and the list goes on! I'm on day 27 right now, so considering just one bottle of wine a day, I've already saved $99.90 so far. I have lots of things I could do with that, specifically pay some of the back bills I've gotten behind on when I was spending too much money on wine!
I spent probably $100 per week on booze - and that doesn't even count going out to the bars. That's at least $10,200 so far in savings for me! I'm also saving on those costly ambulance rides to the ER (which had become regular, alas, by the end) and all other stupid impulse purchases I made while under the influence...there were LOTS of those.
Good thread MI.
Good thread MI.
I remember a few weekends where I spent 500 dollars.
Need not say on what.
For sure it was not good for me.
Thank God there will be no more of those.
Running with the devil is what it was.
We now have a lot of money to spend on good things.

for me maybe … So far 100 bucks maybe haha..
I worked out since I started drinking I reckon I have spent $20,000
I have spent it on cheap alcohol mainly too
In australia alcohol is very expensive, 4 packs of bourbon can be nearly $30, Fifth of spirits easy $35-80 dollars.
Beer you barely find under $35 per case.
I drank boxed wine at one stage and thats only cheap option at $10-15 per 4-5 litre box.
All that money wasted!

Well lets see, I drank an average of 15 cans a day (being conservative, not including the times I went nuts.tried to kill myself with drink), at a pound a can (cans are generally bigger in the UK and cost more) I save almost 6 grand a year.

What's sad is there was a point in my life where I bragged about it. I wasn't really proud of it, but it became part of my persona when I went out. Of course you can give your own opinion of this but I think British/Australian culture is quite similar that way.

Thanks not2late
Will take note!
I have an uncle who could of retired by 45 but hes in monster debt because of his drinking, he may even loose his home. They spend probably a grand a week on booze or more. So sad seeing a hard working man turn into a drunk!!
Im never letting it get like that.
