Does it get better?
Does it get better?
I am feeling a bit depressed today...
I woke up thinking "meh, another day full of cravings ahead...when is it going to end?"
I feel like I have a neverending illness and no matter how hard I try it never goes away. I don't even remember how it is to feel "healthy" and calm and content anymore...
Sorry about the depressing post

Doesn't go away if we don't somehow treat it. AA or the many other things you can learn about on SR are ways of treating it. Even with treating it, it takes a while to go away. But it does. Of that I'm absolutely certain. I drank every single day and couldn't stop, not even for a day, in the last 4 years of my drinking. It's been almost 30 years I'm free from alcohol, and have no desire whatsoever to have a drink. No struggle with that at all, only freedom. AA and the 12 steps are what worked for me.
Are you doing anything aside from just putting down the drink? Just stopping can indeed be torturous.
Welcome, by the way. Just noticed after posting this that this is your first post .

Patricia, how long have you been sober?
I agree that things will improve and you will lose the urges. Maybe it's time to try to add something new to your life to help take your mind off drinking?

But hey..we can do this.
It knocked you down.
You got back up.

i needed a program in my life just to get going and get out of that low feeling
the trouble was i was feeling low and didnt want to do anything at all but sit there feeling low
so i had to start my day with a routine
1 wake up
2 have a bath
3 put some clean clothes on
4 have somthing to eat
5 go for a walk to the shop to buy a newpaper or somthing
6 get to a meeting
7 try and talk to people after the meeting ( hopefully go for a cuppa somewhere and just talk
8 go home and clean up
9 get to another meeting
10 go to bed feeling tired and worn out
11 enjoy a good nights sleep
12 get up and go back to number 1
thats just a simple program i had to push myself to do even though i didnt want to i would much prefere feeling low and doing nothing about it
i hope you will try at least just 1 thing and see how you feel i bet when you start you will not stop lol
and the good thing is you will feel good about you again in the heart were it counts
good luck to you
make your own list up on things to do each day fill your time up

Does it get better? Well it certainly doesn't if we drink. Alcohol addiction will try to convince you that life is oh so much better than being sober, especially early on, all the while poisoning you and making your life miserable. Why else would you be quitting if you weren't miserable drinking?
I have spent decades, literally, feeling miserable as I drank every day, convincing myself all the while that life would be empty and pointless without my dear wonderful alcohol.
It is utter nonsense of course. Alcohol kills us by the million as it fools and deludes us.

Hell yes it gets better! :-) it gets as good as you let it.
Yesterday I ran fourteen and a half miles. Today I ate an unreal number of chocolate covered almonds and took a zyrtec-induced nap in the middle of the afternoon, breaking up an otherwise accomplishment-free day full of episodes of drift-racing anime. Now I'm going to play some Skyrim, and for dinner maybe we're going to the all you can eat Chinese buffet (haven't decided if I want to pony up the cash, it can be a bit expensive). All of this is awesome.
If I was still drinking my day would consist of (1) wake up hungover; (2) lay around hungover; (3) start drinking sometime. And that's pretty much the day, right there. Definitely not awesome.
See, your problem is that you haven't cultivated an appreciation for drift racing anime. (Yet) That and you don't have a huge container of dark chocolate covered almonds. Those two things, get them straightened out, man it's all smooth sailing from there on in.
