popcorn meetings
I went to an AA meeting today. Been going to the same won for a while now. Anyway, it looks like at the last group conscious meeting, they decided to make this a popcorn meeting. For those not familiar with this type of meeting, one person shares than picks someone else to talk, and so on.
Well, when I heard that, my anxiety went through the roof!!!!! I spent most of the meeting trying to listen to what people were sharing, but spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I would say if my turn came up. Along with that, I kept thinking how a few shots of vodka would make this go a lot easier. Thought of leaving quickly, but that would of been too obvious. So I made myself as small as I could in my chair and was never called on, thank god. I wish I could be like some people that are just dying to talk, and talk, and talk, but that will never happen.
Any thoughts on this? I really don't want to avoid this meeting.
Thanks

Say one short sentence and move on. I'd be willing to bet you weren't the only one worrying about what they were going to say. If everyone is concentrating on what they are going to say, no one is going to be critical about your share.
And just imagine how great you will feel when you overcome this anxiety.

I also did a lot of hiding, sinking low in
my chair, making sure I was aligned with
people so the chair person wouldn't see
me, never looking into the eyes of the
chair person.....lol I avoided by all means
to not be called upon for a long long time.
My tray of baked goods saved my azz a many
a times... lol
Once I began reading How It Works out
loud and could feel many eyes upon me,
I soon relaxed and spoke those words with
meaning and conviction. I got my confidence
and finally felt a part of something awesome.
AA does work If We are Willing to Work It
no matter what we do. Even just suiting up,
showing up and sitting quietly, listening
intentively, absorbing, learning and finally
applying it to our daily lives.
This of course is How It Worked for me
then and still today.
