Keep at it. When you get through it you can look back and say "don't wanna go through that again!" 5 days is big, keep it going!

I'd wake up super early and couldn't go back to bed and I had anxiety too, but not major. Breath deep, tell yourself it's gonna be okay, and see your doctor if you haven't. Getting sober sucks but you'll have the ability to get to the root of the issue. Good luck, and good night! (Or good morning depending on your time zone:-)

have you ever tried mindful breathing? I know I struggled with it, but it actually does help get me through the moments of total panic. I have a hard time "meditating" ....but I learned this in detox and it actually did help. I think there's google videos. I need to start implementing this into my daily routine as well.
anxiety sucks glad to hear you are seeing the doc today!

Boy, do I know about the night panic. I had terrible bouts with it. I, too, attempted to deal with anxiety with alcohol. It's like pouring dirt over a fire. It seems to be out, but the embers are down there smoldering, ready to ignite again. For me it happens when I am off-guard. Sleeping.

I did it without meds, but I certainly would not think bad of anyone who did whatever they had to in order to combat the problem. I recommend deep breathing exercises, chamomile tea before bed, physical exercise, and of course eliminating alcohol from the system.

I wish I could say that it is easy, but it isn't. It CAN be done though.

This happened to me too but as I kept not drinking the panic began to lessen over time.

The alcohol was actually the source of the paranoia / fear for me.

Keep going and I bet you will find it getting less and less each week.
You'll also begin to sleep better as the alcohol clears yours system.

You can do it Vicky.

it definitely lessened for me as well the minute I put the bottle down.
I had to ask myself if the anxiety came BEFORE the booze or after? Either way, it was a vicious cycle and one that without the booze involved has improved a great deal even in a short while. (almost a month sober)

hang in Vicky. It will get better.

Yep it happens to me as well.Normally on the 3rd night it dies down and can get a fairly decent sleep. As others have said, exercise is really good and it helps me sleep like a baby.

Hope you're alright Vicky and let us know how you get on at the quacks.
