New & need help!!

Hey!

As I stated im new & really need help. After my partner went to jail in Feb I started drinking heavily, it got to a point where I've lost my job & children. I started detoxing Saturday but now im so itchy & can't seem to sleep. Any advice?

The itching is common. So is the insomnia. In the beginning I just stayed up until I was tired. Some days I slept four hours and some 15. It's kind of like having the flu for the first couple weeks.

Herbal tea is helpful, so is hot chocolate.

It gets better. Be kind to yourself, you're a miracle.

Itching is common and will go away as you get more sober time. Sleep took me a couple weeks or so to get into a good sleep pattern. It will get better. Get medical help if you feel bad. Be safe when detoxing.

I had horrible itching, mostly on my arms. It seemed to be worse at night. My doctor suggested a Benadryl and lotion. I took one Benadryl at bedtime and the lotion I used was Aquaphor - it's like a Vaseline. I don't know if this works because I haven't tried it, but I read that milk has anti inflammatory properties and applying it directly on the itchy parts would be soothing. Good luck. I. Was horribly miserable. It was right up there in horribleness next to the anxiety.
