Question The exhaustion keeps me awake

Hey everyone,
2nd day here on SR, also day 2 of my sobriety. I can't remember how many times I've tried sobriety before, too many to count. But I do know (from last night AND the past times I've given it a shot) it just ruins my sleep - falling asleep, staying asleep, waking up, feeling exhausted the whole next day.

I'm not alone in this right? I'm so used to falling asleep because I'm too drunk to stay awake. How do you battle this vicious sleep cycle? I really try to stay away from sleep meds (they make me feel like a blob the next day), but I need something?

I want to be out during the days, doing SOMETHING at least to distract me and take my mind off wanting to drink, but I'm so exhausted all. day. long. But of course come bed time, sleep is impossible.

Words of encouragement or sleeping tips?

First few weeks I was the same, almost felt constantly jet lagged and exhausted, it does get easier though with time, things will adjust, the body just needs time to heal!!

I found that even the slightest bit of exercise, a short walk, taking the steps (I'm on the 11th floor), anything active helped. A bit everyday.
I'm almost a month sober and still have yet to start my kettlebell videos I do regularly when I'm not bingeing! LOL
I try to walk to work and back daily though (a good 25min hike either way) to start warning my body "you're gonna need to start working again"
baby steps.

maybe a 15-20min walk? do overdo it.

When we get clean and sober our bodies and brains have a lot of reorganizing to do.

A lot of us kept our bodies and brains under constant assault for many years.

I would (a) not drink, (b) read a book, (c) exercise, (d) pursue whatever recovery program you select to help you, and (e) try to be patient.

I know your situation is difficult, and I am sympathetic to your problems.

Take care,

C

I just sleep bad. After three and a half years sober, I've come to the realization I have mild insomnia.
But, I'll take that over passing out any time.
Hope you get some sleep.

It took a few weeks but I now sleep better than I ever have before. I work out which really helps. Try exercising and getting up early then you'll be tired by bedtime

I felt just like you did on day 2. It gets easier to sleep with time.

Without making a doctor recommendation I usually find that exercise and Chamomile tea relaxes me before bed time. I combine relaxing meditation also!
