pain meds

Im an alcoholic. Im early in my quit but i also have been taking prescribed meds for two ruptured disks and sciatica for a while now and dont abuse them. I take less than prescribed actually. Whats yalls opinion on this? Safe to keep taking....or slowly let it go? It does help me and i can function at work with them.

Discuss it with your doctor. We cannot give medical advice on this site.

I wasn't asking for med advice lol

I asked your opinion on taking pain meds as an alcoholic. Not medical question at all.

I would discuss with your doctor the fact that you have an addiction history and ask if he/she feels the meds you are taking are appropriate. I'd also ask yourself if you are taking them simply for the pain as directed, or for other purposes. If it's the latter then it's probably fine. If it's the former then it might be a problem.

Ty scott. Glad you understood my question.

I wasnt asking if it was medically safe rather safe as an addict.

I do understand the question, but don't forget that part of it is a medical question - and you should discuss it with your doctor. You can decide what your motivations are, but there are some drugs that are much better suited for someone with addiction issues compared to others..and only a doctor can make that decision.

I also get your question. My thinking is that if they are prescribed by your GP and reviewed as you both feel is appropriate then they are there to do a job.
For me, as a precaution i would also make sure that any medical practitioner is aware that you are in recovery and from what. This may influence how and what they prescribe and the frequency of any reviews.
Hope that an end is in sight for the pain.
