Kristin Davis, who played Charlotte York in Sex and the City describes herself as a recovering alcoholic. She stopped drinking early, before she became famous, when her drinking became a problem in college.

She's now 43, so I hope that encourages some who are young here that you can go on without it!

It's one of the reasons he <---- in my avatar is a hero of mine. As I work through my own sobriety, I think of him and Pete Townshend, how they made it through alcoholism. They're an inspiration.

And I think of those like Keith Moon who died young of the disease

Sober Joe Walsh

Frank Zappa passed away over 20 years ago, but was famously Sober in a non-Sober Business.

Former Colorado Resident Joe Walsh famously got so hammered he would get booed off Stage from being unable to finish his Show. His 9 year old Daughter got killed by a Car at the bottom of a Hill in Boulder Colorado. Some would thus conclude he had 'plenty' to Drink about. Now a Hired Gun in 'The Eagles', he wrote this Song about getting Sober with the appropriate Title 'One Day At A Time.'

One Day At A Time

I do believe Adele is on the list. If I recall correctly, one of her first hits "Chasing Pavements" was penned about a drunken runaway from a pub after seeing her ex...where she ended up face planting in said pavement. She gave up drinking somewhere there after.

Love the thread.

Thanks for this post! I remember when I first got sober looking this information up and smiling.

I think that we revel in the fact that when celebrities, who are idolized, loved, and respected come forward about their addiction. It proves to the ignorant people who have the mindset that addiction is a homeless person in a doorway with a brown paper bag in their hand that they are wrong. We are in good company and addiction has no boundaries.

One of the best moments I had in early sobriety. I had tickets to a Ted Nugent concert and was a little apprehensive about going. It was an SRO event and there was lots of drinking as I stood there with my seltzer and lime. Then, I saw security escorting a kid who was up in the front through the crowd and out the door. He had lit up a joint. Ted had him escorted out. Then, he made a statement about being clean and sober and I was impressed how many people in that crowd hooted and clapped. I felt a surge in my sobriety muscles and hooted and clapped right along with them.

Sobriety is COOL! Our numbers are growing It takes great strength and power to overcome addiction. We are not homeless people in a doorway soused to the gills with a brown bag in our hands.

We are survivors, that's a lot more than can be said by many.

If you haven't already, if you're on this board today and sober, give yourself a big hug for the work that you're doing. Many would not be able to withstand what you have.

Woot Woot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Johnny Marr - guitar player extraordinaire and awarded "Godlike Genius" status by NME magazine in the UK. This was my first sober concert and very inspiring. "New Town Velocity" off of his latest record is great.

Johnny Walker never drank.

And worldwide, more people abstain from alcohol than drink. Even a little. So out of those 3.5 billion people, there are some famous people indeed. You're gonna need another sheet of paper for that list.
