"You should be very proud of yourself"

I'm coming up to 7 months sober.

This morning I went to visit my addictions therapist. We were chatting and he asked me about my plans for the day. I told him my Grandmother is having another procedure and I would be at the hospital for a large part of the day. He was asking me about my job search and I told him I am still looking and hoping! As I got up to go he said: "has anyone told you how well you are doing?" I was a bit taken aback and said "no, not really" and he said "well you are. I am so proud of you and you should be proud of yourself too".

I wanted to cry a bit. I also cried today when my Grandma was being wheeled out of the room. She took off her rings (her wedding ring and my Grandads ring) and said "if anything happens to me, I want you to mind these".

It's a big change from where I was 7 months ago. I got Bell's Palsy last November. I was in a very bad state then. I remember asking my dad at the time, what is the meaning of life? He said "I really don't know. Why don't you just do what I do? Work hard and be kind to others. It's been a good way to live for 67 years".

Maybe my dad was right all along...

Well, I live a fairly simple life these days.

But it feels good to do the right thing.

Thank you for sharing your story, Tetra. As someone earlier in their recovery, it has certainly served as an inspiration to me and hopefully will to many others as well .

Congratulations on the 7 months! That's an amazing achievement.
