Grounding techniques

Hi everyone. So I had some solid time in sobriety. Slipped up and used multiple times in the past 6 months. Back on day 5 now. Glad to be here.

Reading some of my old notes...and I re discovered a grounding technique that helped me early in recovery.

Keeping my 24 hour AA coin in my wallet or hand. Haven't done that in a year or so...really forgot all about it.

Well it goes back in the wallet tonight.

Anyone else have techniques to share?

Thanks

I was standing in line at the store behind a guy who was buying beer in the middle of the day on a gorgeous Sunday and he was obviously impaired. He peed in his pants while he was fumbling with his credit card trying to pay. I keep thoughts like that in my head if I ever feel the urge to drink.

Hi Findingtheway :)

Great question. Welcome back and nice job with your Day 5.

I do not have a particular grounding technique but a few things that have really helped with the past 20 days.

1. Staying well-hydrated. I reach for cold cans of fizzy water all through the day, especially when I have to sit still, and make a big glass container of tasty jasmine green tea to sip in the morning and afternoon. I find that I think more about drinking alcohol when I feel thirsty.

2. Manual labor and nice walks with the dog in the afternoon when my tolerance level is lower and I am tired. Instead of drinking, I just quick burn the frustration and this has worked well.

Take care and be strong :grouphug:
