Hi. I am Julie and wanted to introduce myself. I am a 39 year old with a young son with a disability. I work 40+ hours per week and am a single parent.
Up until 5 years ago I didn't drink much. I met someone who became my drinking buddy and would drink a bottle plus per night. I was a functioning drinker. The past 3 months I spiraled out of control and began getting severe panic attack during withdrawal. I eventually had to drink all day to stop them. I finally told my sister and did 3 hellish days of detox. Today is day 7 and am back to work tomorrow. I have attended several aa meetings, they are helpful but as hard as I try I am having a hard time buying in.
Sorry so long I just wanted to introduce myself and hope I can get support here. Thanks!

Welcome juliett! I think it will really help you to be here. I'm glad you reached out.
I was in the same state when I found SR. Drinking all day so I wouldn't shake & panic during the day. It was so much easier to stop all together than to continue with the nightmare my life had become. It was exhausting, & never really helped me cope.
Glad to meet you - good job on your 7 days.

Welcome to posting on the forum
Day7 is a great accomplishment!
Lean on everyone here. I do. I'm a mom as well and will tell you that keeping my laptop open throughout the day has been a sober-saver. There is also the Mom's and Mum's forum to check out that is very helpful.

Hey Juliet - stay really close to SR - several times a day. Different recovery programs suit different people - AA, SMART, Rational Recovery. Anyway SR is really good support. I hope you are feeling better in yourself than you were a week ago.

Twelve days is great. Good work! I remember 12 days because it was the first time I raised my hand and introduced myself at a meeting. Before that I just sat in the back, crying, shaking and wondering what the hell I was doing there.
My two cents is don't worry too much about buying in, so to speak. Keep it simple and just listen. Don't drink today. For me, and for many others I have encountered, it got easier the longer I stayed away from a drink. Explore other recovery methods and groups. Read some books about alcoholism. Above all don't put that poison back in your body. You don't need it.
