Hi everyone. I am new here. I hope I am in the right place. I joined this forum because I have an out of state family member that I love very much who I just found out is an alcoholic and I was hoping to find info on how I can help them and also to help myself cope with this and the feelings of helplessness and fear for my loved one. I have been down this road before with a friend in the past and I ended up walking away and feel regrets that I was not strong enough to help. I am perusing this site and it's a wonderful resource. Thanks.
Welcome, you will find a lot of good information and support here! There is a really good friends and family section that you may find especially helpful. Most of us on this forum are on the other side of the problem, so to speak, but you may learn something about how our minds work (or don't work), which may be helpful in itself for you. Best wishes.
Welcome Quasar, there is a friends and family part of this site where folks in your situation give advice and support, or if you want to read more of the mindset of an alcoholic going through early recovery read the Class of May 2014 thread, where everyone entered recovery this month.
Anyone can point you in the right direction. I love what you are wanting to do, we all need support and understanding.

Welcome to the SR family. You'll find additional support on the friends and family of alcoholics forum. But feel free to post anywhere.
As far as your alcoholic family member goes, you can't make them want to be sober. They have to want it for themselves. Let them know you support them in getting sober. And for yourself, I'd suggest some AlAnon meetings to help you learn about alcoholism.
