Interesting visit to the liquor store

Let me preface this by saying I am still sober.

This week at work was a bear. Late nights and early mornings. Today, I left a little early to just come home and relax.

I got about half way home and then that voice made itself known. I stopped at a liquor store, grabbed a bottle of vodka and proceeded to pay for it. They guy working asked if I had been on a business trip since he hadn't seen me in a while.

Told him that I hadn't, just been really busy. He looked at me and said "all liquor sales are final but I will refund yours if you want."

At first I was taken back but then told him "yeah. good call. thanks."

He said when I walked in that he couldn't believe how much healthier looking I am. Said he's been in recovery for 20 years and knows the struggle.

I thanked him again and came home. Weird how things work out sometimes.

That guy did you a massive favour Timmah

Have you worked out what you could do next time you have a rough week at work?

Timmah - that's amazing. Glad you didn't get all defensive, & happy you didn't slip off track.

That story restores faith in humanity for me, the world us not all bad after all.

A great selfless deed by the kind man at the store.
Well done for being strong.

I love those little miracles that happen
in recovery. What blessings they are
for us to experience.

My plan right now is to talk to my psychologist about this event and work out a plan with him.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I've decided to not beat myself up over this. I will learn from it and keep moving forward. I will keep tweaking my plan until I get it right.

I truly believe there are forces at work that we cannot explain.

Call it what you want but at some point in recovery, my father music jewelry box started playing by itself during the night. (He has been dead for 30 years)

There are definitely times when we are really in need of help and the Universe steps in to give us a hand.

Good for you for going to talk to your therapist and work out a plan.

I'll give you some advice that won't cost you a cent Timmah

Balance is very important - too much work or too much play is dangerous for guys like us.

Think about ways you can redress the work/play balance

You might also want to give some thought to finding other healthier ways to deal with stress - exercise, meditation, a hobby...whatever works for you
