I'm on day 5 today too . I would count Sunday as day 1 because it's the day you decided to stop. I stopped myself at 9pm on Sat. but I wasn't for sure quit till Sunday so that's when I count mine. I had a nightmare about drinking too. We were having a big get together and my husband had gone out to get food or something and he came back all glassy eyed. So I pulled him aside and asked him if he got "stuff" on the way home and he said yes and pulled out a big bottle and I grabbed it from him and started guzzling it. So of course like you I wake up guilty but you know what....we didn't really do it. So no reason to feel guilty. Congrats on day 4 or 5!

5/11 is easy to remember because it's my sons birthday.
Welcome to SR, you can do this.
similar traits...
I have been an on/off again quitter for about two years now. I'm 34. I also dip on and off... and run, bike, etc...
And after 7-14-20 days find myself feeling good enough to drink.
My wife also drinks - but doesn't have a problem.
I've also smuggled beer into events in a nalgene. In my 20's it was whiskey in a 20 oz. coke.
I have tried cleansing, etc... right at the beginning of quitting. I always found myself so hungry into it it was miserable. I've also found that just eating a lot of healthy stuff at first and water really helps. Instead of a burger I'd get a Subway sandwich and a hearty soup. After some time your body begins to recover and you start to crave natural healthy stuff. Eventually I would want yogurt, fruits and veggies, salads, etc... for calories and would start to feel better and loose weight, become healthier, etc...
I have a good friend that is 7 years sober. He quit when he was my age. The first year for him he gained weight but was extremely focused on simply not drinking. After that first year he started running. Now he does 2-3 marathons a year, is in the best shape of his life, and happier than ever - and a true inspiration.
I guess all that is to say:
You aren't alone. Take it one step at a time. Don't beat yourself for not sticking to the juice diet. Let your body sort it out for you.
Skoal... oh, skoal. I don't have any advice for that one. I love a good dip in the summer time when I'm always outside. It's a real nuisance and habit. er.

Thanks all. Paddler sounds like we'd get alone just fine.
I just started doing cardio in the last 3/4 years and have since done my first triathlon and 3 marathons. I actually did it in part to force myself to be more healthy. Now I'm to the point where I feel like I can get drunk and still wake up and run a 13+ miles and so I've lost the accountability there. I also tend to get home early Saturday morning from my workout and start drinking right away (bloody mary with eggs? yes please), I've earned it right? Habits that will be tough to break.

yep...
Exercise and staying in shape, eating right, etc... was my (is) excuse to continue to drink. I always find myself subbing in alcohol for healthy food to maintain a healthy weight, etc...
My entire group of friends are active, do races or paddle on weekends, etc... and conclude all that with a healthy dose of beer at the end of the day. Some drink a beer or two and have fun during the activity.
I'm always the guy that tailgates before the activity with a chugged beer and has 2 or 3 more than everyone else during... tailgates before the post-fun get together...
Then by the end of the night is hammered... and craving that morning drink to level out only to find myself feeling like absolute **** on Monday... making recovery and motivation to reach my goals so much harder.
The cycle has never changed and it started taking quite a bit from my tiny kids - 7,4, and 8 mos.

It's Friday evening and I'm at the conference. It's been free drinks from 4pm to 9pm. It's 7:15 and I haven't had a drink or even dropped in at the party. I'm going out to eat and hopefully once I get past 9pm I'm in the clear. It is a different experience being sober at a conference. In the past I've used them as opportunities to drink heavily. Glad I have SR.
Oh and I did tell my wife I quit drinking. She's meeting me for supper in a few minutes.

Good for you and good on your wife. Great to have a teammate and that support. Free drinks... from 4-9. Good lordy...
I was offered a free $35 ticket to a rib, bar b q, all you can drink microbrew festival tomorrow. It was super tempting. I even thought about going just to hang out. Even thought about offering to be the DD.
Then decided to just hang out with the family. Stay strong and way to go!

I made it through the night! We actually did stop by the party for about an hour. My boss was there so I had to make an appearance. I gave my drink ticket to my wife and I had to turn down other people trying to give me drink tickets when they noticed I didn't have a drink in my hand. There was a fashion show and concert going on at the same time so I just diverted my attention to that while I was there. I was pretty anti-social which kind of sucks but I had to be so I could make it through. I don't want to put myself in that kind of environment often. I feel great today though, first time ever at a conference and not hungover on day 2! Today is the start of day 7, I've almost made it a week

Day 8 and I'm still here. I'm actually starting to enjoy sobriety and not just dread my next craving. My biggest urges come when I am driving alone because this is when I would always just stop at the liquor store and bring home my medicine. Riding my bike to work has been a bike help with this. Thanks everyone at SR who has helped me along this far!
