Where to start?
Hello everyone,
I am completely new to the site and forum so I apologize in advance if my questions have been answered (multiple) times. I recently gave up drinking after what felt like a 10 year binge. I used the "weed myself off" method and not do cold turkey. A lot of my abuse came from anxiety & depression issues. I currently have a support group, plus support from friends & family. I do have a couple questions for those who have been in similar situations.
#1. I naturally have anxiety issues which my primary doctor knows about. However he does not know the extent of my alcohol abuse. I always lied about my habits. I made an appointment to see him because I want to know what kind of damage I may have done to myself. I easily worry so the thought of liver or other damage keeps me up at night. The slightest ache, pain, shakiness, or headache has me researching WebMD for solutions.
My question is if there is any advise to what to ask him or tests to request?
#2. Besides trying to be active and avoid any triggers, I have no clue about what else I could do to start feeling more healthy. I will be honest, since I've gave up alcohol a week ago, I still feel sick, or even more sick. I have no energy, wake up with headaches (I'm too afraid to take Tylenol)...so I am definitely experiencing side effects. Are there any diets out there that help? Also are there any medications I can suggest to my doctor to help cope with the physical withdrawl? I obviously don't want anything that could be highly addictive but something that could help me feel better while fighting for recovery.
Thank you everyone for responses. God bless!

Hi strangedays - welcome
I can;t give you any better advice than be honest with your Dr - you won't be the first alcoholic they've seen I promise. Be honest - it will make working out what to do from here so much easier for your Dr.
I think the best thing for your ailments is time. You're withdrawing from a dangerous drug, one I assume you've had in your life for years.
You're meant to not feel great - it's completely natural.
Definitely ask your Dr if your concerned but if you do common sense things like eat well, get plenty of rest, and keep hydrated you will feel better in a few days

Thank you very much for the responses already. This is definitely a great site for resources and advice. My biggest fear going into this is the anxiety and withdrawals since I already get bad anxiety. That and still trying to function at work and home without feeling like I'm going crazy. Work is my worst trigger. I work in customer service at a casino so I deal with a lot of angry people, some who may also have their own addictions. I recently got accepted for a transfer out of that department (and atmosphere). So the thought of becoming sober and starting fresh is my motivation.

Tell your Dr that you want some tests run so you can be at ease with the topic. I did it and felt much better, mostly now that I'm on day 5 and having huge headaches. I am taking aspirin to cope. The previous times I tried to quit couln't handle the withdrawal phase and went back right to where I was.
