I dont want to see what a trainwreck that I provoked- so I put off- for instance looking at my online visa statement.

Yep been there, usually waited a few days or until collection called me. The anxiety was unbearable.

Good news is that you can get your control back, by quitting.

I'm only on day 10, might not sound like much, but I already saved around 250$, excluding this weekend where I would usually get hammered.

It I can, you can also,

I'm on day 3, and am avoiding things as well. For instance, the job I lost last week because I didn't show up due to my binging...I have a paycheck waiting for me down there, and I don't have the guts to go and face my former supervisor who took a chance on me. I know it's got to be done (given I'm about $550 in the hole), but oy...

In all honesty, after the meeting from last night and this morning, I find it almost comical...until my guts turn to butterflies.

I understand anykey - been down that road a million times. During my drinking days I didn't answer the phone or check my mailbox.

I think you'll feel better if you check, though. If nothing else, you know what you're up against. And it's usually not as bad as you think. If it is, you can make a plan.

Im with you Anykey and Austin on both fronts, I dreaded finding out how many times I visited the hole in the wall, and the last 2 jobs Ive had Ive dissapeared from never to be seen again all due to drinking. Wish at times we could be open and honest about our problem...... would save us a lot of hiding, running and lying!!!!

Interesting thread guys.

I think procrastinating has a double folded effect on sobriety.

First, it prevents us from wanting to get sober because we have to face the music without numbing the stress and anxiety of our unattended affairs.

Second when we do get sober, we have the unrealistic expectation that a lifetime of procrastination will get fixed quickly.

What I have learned from my last relapses is that everything will take time and patience. And like many have said here on SR, that drinking would only add to the pile of crap I have to clean up in my life.

This time I'm sticking to the plan and not looking back. Beer is not an option anymore.
