Day 6 craving alcohol...

I'm at work for a few more hours and I'm already thinking about how badly I want to drink when I am finished. I had a dream last night that I was drunk, I woke up so happy realizing it was just a dream. The more I post here the more I realize I do not want to use, that's why I figured I'd post this. The longest I've ever gone without drinking is 26 days, I wanted to make it to a month and longer so badly. I know ill hate myself for giving in and drinking . I wish I could drink in moderation but I only could do that if I was around family or friends and then I'd just drink more when I was a lone. Moderation to me just isn't realistic I'd rather drink to get drunk or not drink at all. Just needed to vent.

Gettingbetter64 ,welcome to SR! I found on each time I decided to stop drinking over the years , the first 20-30 days were the toughest. But if you set your mind to it , the rewards are the greatest as the days get there one day after the other, your body and mind heal and you see wonderous things that have escaped you while you were using! Keep up the good work I promise it is definitly worth it! Stay Strong and Well ! Bobby

Each day sober I feel better even if it's the shittest day I'm glad I'm learning how to deal with emotions sober. I can't let myself down

if I was in your shoes

I would set my goal for 27 days

I set my last goal for 3 years -- after just falling short of that mark twice

today I have 6 years -- it works (if) we work it

I struggle as hours get close to leaving work too. The drive home is when my loudest AV rears it's ugly head, and no moderation does not work. I getcha Gettingbetter. I had a horrible day today at work and my urges were real strong this afternoon too. Be strong and just think how a clear mind will be better in the morning versus the regret and hangover. We can tackle this night sober, you with me? I just bought some Skinnycow ice cream. That and fizzy waters help me get over the cravings. I always considered my beers a treat. Good luck to ya tonight!

Sometimes we just need to accept the craving is there and not act on it - you'll feel uncomnfrtable but it will get easier.

Look at the urge surfing part of the link I posted before

Why not join the Class of April support thread as well gettingbetter64?

Recognize the craving for what it is: the dying scream of your AV. Pay it no mind. Go about your business and don't give in. You'll feel so much better tomorrow.

Craving is still there but I'm not gonna give in, I am going make some tea instead and find a movie to watch. I think I may go to an AA meeting tomorrow it's been awhile since I've been to one, I always feel better after one even if I get nervous and leave early lol.

Good job staying committed tonight, gettingbetter! Every day that you can put in the sober column puts you closer to being craving free. Good luck, friend.
