Gratitude...

Gratitude... I found this in my app that tells me how many days I have Clean so I wanted to share it with all of you...

Gratitude is one of my greatest weapons in the war of addiction. When I find my heart filled with gratitude, I no longer have time for self-pity. There is no room in my heart for deceit when it is filled with gratitude. Gratitude also has a way of creating a strong sense of security in recovery. Gratitude changes my perspective on life. Gratitude helps me to discover the life that is inside of me. It leads me to a place of serenity and peace of mind. Gratitude helps me eliminate unrealistic expectations and accept the gifts that are provided to me in abundance.*

Oh yes, Gratitude is the cornerstone of recovery.

One of the reasons I began drinking was because I was a perfectionist and had unrealistic expectations for myself. Consequently, I was always pointing out to myself how I had not been a good friend/coworker/mother that day. Gratitude shifted everything for me.

Hi Painless - I have been trying to focus on gratitude too. I remember when I got sober last time I had to make being grateful a very regular mental list that I regularly considered. I am starting to do this again now. I do remember also how much I loved that I appreciated the simple things in life e.g. the autumnal colours of the trees or my dog really excited when I walked him. When I am stuck in active alcohol addiction I tend to be so much more tunnel vision. Have a great day.
