The daily cycle
I'm having a hard time getting over my daily cycle. I'm on day 6 now, and from about 2pm until 6pm, it's a constant thought stream of "screw this, I'll just go drink somewhere". The sad part now is that I have everyone against me drinking. My girlfriend left me because of my outbursts. My mother is taking a break, but she doesn't really believe in sobriety, my friends are being super supportive, as they stand there with a beer in their hand. I feel like I would let everyone down, but I also feel like I have very little reason not to go drink.
What does it matter if I go sneak to the bar and have 1 or 10. No ones going to know, I'm already in a dark place. And when I get these urges, I feel like breaking down and crying.. OK.. I do break down and cry.
I get the "find something to do" ideas, but it doesn't change that I'm depressed and have already done the damage. I'm not looking for sympathy.. I just thought expressing it somewhere would help. It kinda did.. I guess…

Welcome to SR, Kuropta! Congrats on 6 days sober!
Late afternoons until dinner were my favorite drinking time, too. It took a while before not doing what I always did started to feel normal.
Not true. The most important person will know.
Best of Luck on Your Journey!

some "alcoholics" do solve their problems on their own, some of us need some kind of program of recovery. From everything you said, you are no different than any of us.
to counter those thoughts you talked about, I use AVRT( addictive recognition technique) whereas you recognize and differentita between you and your addictive voice. the book" Rational Recovery" by Jack Trimpey is a must (in my opinion) for any alcoholic who wants to quit.
I also still attend AA meetings here and there and have a sponsor. in other words I have been such a wreck that I use anything out there to stay stopped from drinking. I strongly suggest either AA or the book or both programs.
