AA Meeting a great success

Hope everyone had a great Easter. Our weather was top notch for Michigan, and it really felt like Spring.

Saturday I did go to my first AA meeting as promised. For those of you struggling with this - it took me nearly three years, to finally accept and understand that I needed a support group. I chose AA, and I am glad I did. I'd like to try some other meetings as well, but for now, I'll go to the same group again to build up some confidence and learn some names. I was very fortunate to be in a group of all ages, all incomes (rich and poor), and men and women.

I will say I did feel awkward and nervous pretty much for the whole meeting. But, not because of the people, but because of myself. But, overall, it was exactly what I hoped it would be.

Hope. Strength. Understanding. Compassion. Comradery. Friendship.

To give you an idea of how nervous I was, I wished a gal a blessed Christmas on the way out. I was so embarrassed.

But, I just wanted to let those know that are struggling with the idea of going....please try it, and if the first group doesn't work for you, keep looking. There's a reason all our "veterans" here keep telling us this. And it doesn't just have to be AA - finding the method that works for you is vital. I'm choosing AA, because I like the friendship and support of others.

Love to all! Have a great night.

Hi Majoram,
I'm happy to read about your first meeting in AA. Nervous? Me Too!! But, I saw my husband and son being active in their recovery (via 12 Step programs), so I knew the the program worked. Damn but I was stubborn in my disease then...
Keep coming back.....

I wish I had put this into play sooner, but you know....things happen for a reason. I accept that, and continue to move forward. Learning from my mistakes as best as I can. And learning from everyone here. I could not have reached this point without you.

God is good to us in ways sometimes we fail to see. But, right now, I know I'm blessed with all of your thoughts and well wishes, and it means so much to me!!!

Acceptance played a huge role in my recovery. I had to stop asking why or what if. I had to accept I was an alcoholic and move on.

I think that is one of the hardest things to do because once you admit it and accept it there are no more excuses. It was time to do something about it, get in recovery and learn a new way to live.

The hard part is seeing those that do not do something about it. They admit it and turn it into their demise and live in hell for years. They never accept it.

I am happy the meeting went well, keep coming back
