24 days and facing a weekend of triggers

Headed to a family gathering out of town this weekend. I know it will be difficult and have a plan but words of encouragement are welcome!
:)
My usual noon meeting today was cancelled.

Sorry about your meeting.
But good for you for having a plan for the gathering.
It took me a long time sober to finally say 'I don't drink' to people. That's all I said. No explaination needed. It's none of anyones business why.

You can make it through. Have fun!

Stick to the plan!

You got this! :ring

PLAN = good idea
You stand to gain so much more than you have given up! Remember, one day at a time, one moment at a time... and before you know it, the gathering is over and that particular difficulty is past!

If you are going to someone's house bring enough diet soda, or whatever else you now drink, to get you through the weekend. Nobody will mind if you bring your own beverage. Then go ahead and drink right along with whomever you are with. When you feel the urge to drink, just gulp whatever non-alcoholic drink you have in your hand and try to eat something to combat the urge to drink alcohol.

You will make it through the weekend. I know you will.

Good luck, PamperingMe. We are pulling for you. :grouphug:

Pampering,

I'm in your situation right now. I'm on day 60 and just started a family vacation in Hawaii. I spent the last week wondering how do I spend a week here and not drink. I'm on day two without a drop and I must say, I'm having a great time and actually think I will make it. You have to reason with yourself, zero drinking with family. Set a goal and go do it! If your family drives you crazy, go for a long walk to decompress . Good luck! Btw, I used to drink all day when on vaca, if I can do it, so can you..

Thanks jkirk! I have family support for my sobriety so that will help. I'm planning on speaking with them briefly but honestly about my decision to stay sober. I haven't seen them in person in awhile and the last time I was there I was drinking. I'm very happy with my progress and resolved to keep going. I plan to attend a meeting there tomorrow.

I appreciate you sharing and have a great time in Hawaii!

Getting tougher in sunny beautiful NYC with rose everywhere. Just saw a famous actor drinking outside at brunch. Seemed "glamorous" says my AV. BUT Have my vitamin water zero, no hangover, and a feeling of accomplishment!

Just checking in to let you know you can do this and to ask how it's going so far? :)

PamperingMe 04-19-2014 11:07 AM

It's going ok. A little tough but not bad! So sunny. Things are in bloom. Lots of positive energy and yummy non alcoholic drinks!
Thanks for the support. It helps SO much.
