Hour by Hour
Hour by Hour
I wanted to take sobriety a day at a time, but now I know, I have to take it our by hour. What have others done to deal with a fragile state where getting through the day takes strength every 60 minutes? I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sublimely, sometimes one minute at a time. Yesterday, I was an inch away from a drink, I came on here instead, and in ten minutes, the desire was gone. A friend of mine in AA Says to himself. 'I can drink, just not right now.' That's good enough for me. Hang in there.
Hour by hour is exactly right. I keep myself busy through that one hour and do it all over again for the next hour. Work, exercise, read, SR, clean, laugh, cry..whatever I need to do. I hate that I have to go to work everyday when I just want to be in bed and "wait it out". But work is a huge distraction.
When I first got sober it was primarily to take better care of my dogs. So all I had to do was look at them to see my goal in the flesh, or rather, in the fur.
Whatever your goal in sobriety is, focus on that when you feel the urge to drink.

It's okay to take it hour by hour. There were times I did the same.

I got by a minute at a time in the beginning. I know it is hard to believe, but it really does get better.
My motto was all I have to do it get thru this moment without a drink. That is all that is required of me.
You can do this!
