Honestly? I'd feel better my counsellor actually knew something about addiction other than what he cribbed out of a textbook

^^i agree with Dee. I was seeing an addiction specialist a while back and about 6 months in she flat out told me that she was a blackout borderline alcoholic in college and it scared her so much she went into the field to understand and learn and help others while helping herself in a way. I actually took what she said much more seriously after I knew that she had some idea from personal experience.

Don't sweat it. Go and get the help you need and want. It will make you more able to help those you work with and is a win-win in the end.

Same here. My trusted and wonderful counselor was an addict herself so she knows what she's talking about. I trust her implicitly and think the world of her.
