Hi Jakarta

All that stuff usually rights itself with a little sober time.

Are you looking to stop drinking?

Dee is right. I saw a dermatologist on Tuesday for my red face. I was given some meds to see if theres any impact, but he told me that drinking makes it worse and it should get much, much better with some abstinence.

Is it ever possible to take a break from drinking then drink responsibly?

Since I stopped drinking my puffiness has completely gone. My skin looks better, fresher than it did even 20 years ago so people tell me

If you stop drinking it will likely go. If you start again it will come back It is a poison after all and shows itself in our face and bodies.

If you're an alcoholic, even taking a break for years, then returning to the drink, can just continue the progression of the illness.

It wasn't possible for me Jakarta - but I think most people try.
Have you ever tried before, to have a break?

I did it in my mid 20's to get back in shape for 3 months or so. After I would party still but didn't have wine for something to do I was busier then and happier.

I'm not any kind of Dr, but just from my experience, I think if you want your face to get better and your weight too, you're going to have to look at a complete break from alcohol for a while?

Thank you Dee and Newman. For most of my life I would drink but not every day. More in summers for sure. Pool parties and patios. But the past year was different

Not if you are an alcoholic--by that, I mean you have on-going problems with drinking in terms of being able to control your intake, etc.

My skin looks fantastic now. I also was swollen and blochy when drinking.

My skin looks awful after a 6 day binge
But I believe not
If you stop drinking you have to completely. Let it go you may be able to control it again at the start but it creeps back up and takes over your life again
I suggest stop n don't go back
That's what I'm hopping to achieve I've relapsed lists of times

Somewhere in my profile photos I have a before/after pic, it's really amazing the damage alcohol can cause to both our insides and outsides!

ETA: Found it: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...fore-after.jpg

The tricky thing about alcohol is that it makes you forget what you really want to do. It's like a demon that gets inside of you and makes you do things that you-the real you inside-don't want to do. So you decide to have "just one drink" and you really do mean just one. But when you have that first drink, the alcohol takes over and makes you take a second, third, fourth, etc. That's not what you wanted to do, but you did it anyway. So what I finally realized is that in order to prevent all that unwanted drinking, I just needed to decide to never take the first drink. And I really thought carefully about what I wanted my life to be like. I didn't want to wake up with a fat head. I didn't want to be in a haze. I didn't want to be bloated, splotchy faced, etc. And I realized that in order to achieve all of these things, I just needed to never take that first drink. And now I've made it two months without drinking. What a blessing it has been. It's so much easier to just realize you don't want to drink and to quit rather than trying to moderate. For me moderation just doesn't work (due to the demonic effects I mentioned above). It gets a lot easier as you go too.

Good luck to you Jakarta and See. I wish you both well. Flutter, you look great sober!

Wow, what a difference, Flutter! You look fantastic

I've lost 15lbs so far from just cutting out alcohol. Massive improvement considering I've made no other changes. My diet is actually probably worse as I've had some heavy sugar cravings... but they seem to be tapering off a bit and my body is balancing itself out. I'm really enjoying the progress and transformation.

Yes this is so true
It's like the demons take over you need up doing all the things you would never do that's why taking the first drink is always too many a thousand is not enough as George best would say
