Hi SnoozyQ,

Great avitar by the way! I have had acid reflux for years but it was worst in my initial withdrawal for whatever reason, has your diet changed as it may be that.

I was on daily tagamet/pepcid/zantac for almost 20 years. Then my brother (not a doctor) recommended a gluten free diet. I was off the meds in 2 days.

Hi Snoozy.

Yes I have that, and also a hiatus hernia and scarring to my oesophagus, all caused by drinking. I take omeprazole, but I would check out your diet too. I also have heard good things about cutting out gluten, but a friend of mine has also had good results by cutting out dairy. My doc told me to avoid fruit juices and coffee.

Check with your doctor Snoozy as there are some good drugs out there. Apart from that:
- Slope the bed down towards your feet if possible, or use high pillows
- Eat very lightly in the evening and avoid carbs
- Lost weight if you're overweight

I find the main influence is my weight.

I did after a course of heavy antibiotics and anti inflammatories.

Manuka Honey. Must be a 15+ rating. Snooze - this stuff is the real deal. Worked better than anything else. Cured it almost instantaneously.

Hi Snooz. Do you drink much in the way of fizzy drinks even if it's sparkling water? Try cutting them out for a few days and having just plain tap water to see if that's a cause or try not drinking liquid at meals. I find that fizzy drinks in combination with food can do that. If you are getting a burn with the reflux then I think you have an issue where you need to see the doctor.

Some great advice right here, the hiccups makes perfect sense. You could even try some over the counter anti acid tablets like renee, they are good too. But diet and soda are common culprits for reflux. A lot of people say coffee is better being cut down a bit, but I have to be honest I cannot go without my coffee too.

Nexium's usually pretty effective Suzy; might be worth seeing your doc if it's not working.

been struggling with reflux for over 20 years.... sober or not. I'm sure drinking had to do with it.

Daily omeprazole is the only thing that controls it so far.

Yes!! I have been suffering from that the last two months. I just found out that I have systemic candida. Apparently its really common in Alcoholics. No Dairy, no wheat, soda sugar. It causes bad heartburn.

Hi Cusper,

Thanks for the post, I'd honestly never heard of that and the link to alcohol.

Every days a school day

A few teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water once a day.
