Went to my first AA meeting

Reports on my first AA meeting...

I was a sceptic, I thought it would be weird...

It was great, really really great. Everyone was so nice to me, so welcoming. It's not formal at all, and the vast majority there were atheists. I've already got countless phone numbers. There were people from all walks of life there, literally from a lawyer to a recently homeless guy, nobody judged anyone. It's the first time I've actually met other alcoholics face to face, and it really helped. I'm so pleased I finally put the stereotypes aside and tried it.

Although we were dealing with serious issues we all had a laugh. I will definitely be going back tomorrow. So proud of myself for walking through that door

AA is a very special place. 4.5 years down the road I still go 4 time's a week. AA got me sober and more importantly has kept me sober.

I can totally understand. A guy who has been sober for 18 years brought me home, what he was telling me was as if he was reading my mind. That physical connection with others has been great.

So glad I did it

One piece of advice is to do what the winners do. He has not stayed sober for 18 years by accident. Old timers are at AA meetings because they need to be

Thanks for this, I'm starting to appreciate the wisdom they have. It's one thing posting on a forum but meeting people in the flesh has really been inspiring.

Going back tomorrow night, I will keep this thread updated with my experiences. But for now, thanks SR because I wouldn't have gone without you guys.

The thing that got me was the diversity and the vibrancy of the personalities in there.

I always doubted AA, but going there has blown my mind.

Took a lot to walk through that door!

I was terrified when I walked through the door, but I'd urge you to try it. Don't think there was one person who did not come up to me and welcome me.

I really didn't intend on it, I just thought sod it, what I'm doing at the moment isn't working. Can't hurt to try right.
