New and needing help!
I feel selfish that my first post to this site is a plea for support, but I am in a dark and terrible place, right now -- rock bottom, as they say. I've been drinking heavily for a number of years and my body and mind cannot take anymore. I'm scared, I'm lonely, and I've lost the ability to function in most areas of my life. I'm circling the drain. The good news is that I have my first AA meeting this evening. I'm nervous, but excited. Thanks for being here, and any and all remarks are deeply appreciated.

Welcome, Mercy You've taken really positive steps by posting here and admitting you have a problem and going to your first AA meeting. You may want to think about getting medical advice re detox if you've been drinking very heavily, but psychologically you've made an excellent start

Welcome to SR! Wow you got a few great steps in the right direction! Coming here and a meeting tonight.
Trust me, once you get sober, safely with a doctor or a detox Center is always recommended for withdrawals, your life will start improving exponentially!
Don't let drinking does not define who you are.
The keys to the prison door are right there, you just have to reach and seek support.

Welcome MercyStreet! It's great that you found us - we know just how you feel, we've been there.
I was drinking 'round the clock when I found SR. I never imagined a way out of the nightmare I was in. When I began to read the posts here I instantly felt calmer and more hopeful. Not being alone anymore meant everything. There was no one in my life who understood what I was going through. I hope you'll continue to post and read. Let us know how your meeting goes. We are with you.

I'm thinking probably almost all of us came here looking for help, just like you.
Nothing to feel selfish about, that's exactly why we're here....
and guess what? Your asking for help is helping us too. Everyone who walks in that door is a new reminder to us that it's not any better out there than it was when we came in that door, beaten down and needing help.
Thank you for helping me stay sober today.
Welcome aboard.

Welcome Mercy. No such thing as selfish here, we are just glad you are here. You're a step ahead of me on heading to an AA meeting. But, this morning I decided it's worth a try to see if it's for me. You'll find lots of support here! I agree with FreeOwl - you being here, helps all of us, too! Welcome, welcome!
