Newbie Oldtimer
I'm a 29 year sober newbie to the forum. Just wanted to give a shout out from Middle Tennessee to everyone in the recovery community! I got sober in Texas in 1984, moved to Idaho in 1993 and back to Tennessee in 2001.
Born in Nashville, I moved around a lot because of the military and other jobs but have finally settled about 25 miles from my place of birth.
I'm semi-retired but run a small business from home and am enjoying the ability to attend lots of meetings and stay involved in service work.
I plan on attending the 80th International Convention in Atlanta next year and am truly looking forward to it.
Looking forward to seeing what this forum has to offer.

Welcome Ratdog. I'm sort of like you for sobriety. There are a variety of forums at the top of this page under forums to search also. I find it rough to stay on this forum as there seems to be so many relapses and folks who insist on getting sober their way. Staying recovered seems to be a foreign concept. Maybe terminal uniqueness?
I'm from the old school, sit up front and listen, worked for millions.

29 years Ratdog! That is fabulous. Wish I'd wised up decades before I did. SR has helped me get on my feet and stay there - it's an amazing community. I'm sure you'll be a valued member. Glad to have you with us.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I just got back from a District business meeting. I've been out of service work for the last 10 years because I've been on the road. Today, I took over as our district's treasurer. It feels good to be able to do some service work outside the group level for a change.
IOAA2 - I'm a front & center kind of guy as well. I always try to be in the "inner circle" lol. When a newcomer asks how to get into that "inner circle", i just smile and say "Show up before me." I encourage newcomers not so sit in the back of the room (the 'relapse' section) and to join in the sharing. They don't know how much they might help someone else who may be struggling.
To anyone new to sobriety I can only ask you to keep an open mind and check out different meetings in your area. Some you will like, and others you won't. As with ANY group of people, there will be personality conflicts. By having a loving, tolerant attitude toward others, these need not be a stumbling block. Just Keep Coimng Back!
