Tonight's the night!

So I've finally picked a night and it's here. I wavered a bit earlier with the "maybe I should quit tomorrow" thoughts but I REALLY just need to do it now.

Like a lot of ppl, the though of detox has also helped keep me drinking. I'm already feeling anxiety...probably going to go stay at my parents.

Uuuuuugh.

I have never used AA before to quit but have found a ladies only group that meets on Tuesday night that I think I will visit.

Thanks for listening.

good choice summerfall,

be careful, don't know your history, but quitting alcohol cold turkey can be very very dangerous, make sure your people also understand this

Welcome to SR.

I've quit a couple times before. Usually get the anxiety, insomnia, stomach upset, super tired etc. I drink a bottle a day, but this week tapered to 2 glasses a night...so about half a bottle. And now I'm quitting all together.

Had another lecture/stern looks from my doctor about how I need to smarten up because I've been a drinker for years and it is now catching up to me. I have a whack of bloodwork to get done and an EKG.

I will be seeing her again in 3 weeks and would like to be able to tell her I haven't been drinking.

Thanks for the replies!

Complete Abstitance is what AA teaches us. Never consume alcohol ever again for the rest of your life, one day at a time. So there are options, you can just go to meetings and more then likely drink again. Or you can follow the procedure as outlined in the Big Book of AA and be cured from a hopeless state of mind and body. There are really two options, to live life on a spiritual basis, or be doomed an alcoholic death. Its your choice, what do you choose?

Welcome summerfall! It's great to have you join us - it helps so much to share what we're going through.

I'm glad you talked to your doctor. It'll feel so good to be free of it - you can do it.

Well done! You've taken the first step into a new wonderful world of sobriety.

You'll be up and down, you'll feel good and bad. It's a rocky road, but it's really worth it! The early days are hard, but you'll get to know a life far better. You'll know happiness soon.

Be strong. Be safe.

Peace and love

Welcome., and there really is something to be said about putting hour after hour behind you., and then day after day, then week after week.

You get stronger and empowered, and you will feel a whole lot better physically. I've quit off and on for years and am on my 6th day and feel measurably different from last Sunday. You can do it....

Great choice, no point in putting it off till tomorrow as it always comes and it will be one less hangover to deal with, staying with parents or friends is a great idea and please remember to tell them what you are doing as like many have said quitting cold Is potentially dangerous.
Well done and take care.

"Maybe I should quit tomorrow" is a conversation I started having with myself 2/1....then 3/1... Etc. it took another few weeks of this dialogue to get there. Now I have 11 days instead of 6 times that.

Good choice!
