Failure and Success

So, in a familiar (and predictable) story, I fell off the wagon thinking the odd one or two on holiday would be fine.

Well it wasn't, and then I seemed to forget that the holiday was over but I'd just indulge over the weekend.

And then weekends started including Thursday and then Monday and I was losing five days at a throw and turning up for work pretty damned crapulent.

And then ... it's, as I say, a familiar story huh?

So, that's the failure ...

And the success?

Forteen days, evenings, and nights off the bottle.

Yay.

Glad to see you Kathmandu.

Yes, an all too familiar tale - I did the same thing for years. I insisted I could use willpower to have a few. Every time, I failed. The 'few' would mean getting drunk - and the beginning of long binge. I'm happy you are putting an end to it. You can do this.

Thanks everyone.

I guess it's difficult offering support to someone who has been monumentally stupid!!

Good for you.

It's important for people to know that there is life after relapse, and that the sooner you jump back in the better.

I can relate - had 7 days in a row without drinking. Felt great, getting along better with my spouse and so much more focused and productive at work. So my reward to myself tonight? On my second glass of wine. Too many years of drinking after a bad day, drinking after a good day. Seems all the days run in together till you can't tell them apart. Like we say in Chicago - "The Cubs win- the Cubs lose"

Hoping I can go back to not drinking again tomorrow

We aren't stupid, merely delusional: "a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary."

Congratulations on two weeks!
