I have been drinking for 50 some years in different stages, but had isolated
it to drinking only to go to sleep. I told myself I wasnt an alcholic because I only drank at night (between a pint to a quart of high proof in about a 30
min space) just so I could go to sleep.(all this in secret)
I thought I could quit any time I wanted but when I tried I lasted only two to three days. this patern went on for about ten years all the time wanting to quit so I could get back in shape (exersise was out of the question with a
hangover every morning). It was esier to just continue.
I did decide to stop after being confronted by my wife after finding the bottles in my truck.
I then thought it was going to be a piece of cake to stop, not so much.
I went cold turkey and made it two weeks so far. I thought that after stopping I would feel great after a couple of days, ha, now I feel all then things I was masking with alcohol and hangovers. Now have vertigo and am
trying to fix it. I hope it gets better, just want to be my old self again

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to stop drinking.
I drank alcoholicly for thirty years, so you've got a few on me.
I found it impossible to stop on my own, too. Even with dumping it out, solemn vows and a true willingness I still couldn't stop.
I finally went to AA and found people just like me who had successfuly stopped drinking. After a few set backs, I finally managed to stop.
It's been over three years now, and life couldn't be better. Well, it could but I can now handle situations that used to baffle me.
So don't be afraid to seek help and support. You'll find lots of it here.
Give it time, you'll be back to your old sober self before you know it.
It's great to have you here and best to you.

hi and welcome CAPTNCRAZY
If you drank like I did for as long, and it looks like you did, it's gonna take a little while for things to return to normal.
If you're worried about how you feel, by all means see a Dr (I think that's a great idea in any case if it's been 50 years or so).
most of us find we feel better after a week or two
