90 days
90 days
I have not had a drink for 90 days The longest time since I started drinking in my teens, 25 years ago.
The support and knowledge I have gained from visiting SR daily has been pivotal in the achievement. A massive thank you
In case it is helpful for others, as well as SR, the methods I have employed are: telephone based alcohol counselling; material rewards when I reach milestone ( spa treatment/ manicure etc); a mindfulness course to help me deal with underlying anxiety; and plans, plans, plans for the evenings and weekends which are my vulnerable time.
I have found it hard work but it is a great deal easier than it was in the first 4-6 weeks. The habit of drinking every night is broken. I no longer expect a drink every night and that makes it easier. However, I also know that if I drink tonight, I will want one tomorrow night and then I will be caught. Trapped again, having give away control over my life- to a substance- liquid in a glass.
I have started to take a good nights sleep for granted and my heart doesn't skip a beat when I see a police car when I am driving to work in the morning after the night before.
I was in the supermarket recently, just before 10 pm, the cut off time for buying alcohol. The guy in front was buying beer, wine and a bumper bag of crisps. That used to be me, time and again and I was so glad that is no longer my life.
To those in the early stages, stick in and take control back.
Thank you for the constant support and encouragement on here.
