I was cleaning and found a bottle of beer

I just want to cry....it's sitting on my kitchen bench and I keep going in there and looking at it.

Dump it down the sink and plug your nose while doing it so you don't smell the beer. I had to do that today when cleaning out the freezer and finding a bottle of rum with a little bit left. I breathed through my mouth until I had run a bunch of water down the sink and washed my hands a couple of times with soap. Sounds kind of silly telling it but hey...it worked. :-)

I just poured it down the sink. My 8yr old walked in and said Mummy what's going on. I told him I was pouring it down the sink and that I didn't want to drink alcohol anymore. He said Ok Mummy and walked out.
I still feel like crying :-(

Hold your nose closed when you pour it down the drain too! And then run hot water to eliminate the smell. You can do this!

I'm really proud of you. It sometimes feels really unfair, doesn't it? It does get better...I promise. And it's okay to cry......

I found a pint bottle with a couple of swallows of cheap gin leftover when I was cleaning the other day. Cheap gin went on to the recycling center with its bottle.

Those are weird situations, because they truly catch you off guard. I definitely thought about giving it a shot (ha), but then I went through the parade of horribles that likely would follow -- drink that, get minor head buzz, feel disappointed in self for breaking streak of sobriety, say "well screw it, might as well go in for a pound since I'm in a for a penny already" and hit the package store, then have drunk and miserable afternoon followed by weeks of regret.

So yeah, didn't sound like a good time to me once I framed the issue.

(I don't feel like I am on moral high ground or particularly pleased with myself, like, "yeah! willpower! WOOHOO!" or anything like that, I just feel like it was a no-brainer in light of the obvious surrounding facts)

Never heard of running hot water down the drain afterwards this is to eliminate the smell ?
Never found the smell of alcohol tempting i have with fresh cigarette smoke....
Good on you to pour it away its torture when you find hidden drink and it sits there talking to you saying
Come and drink me
You know you want to
Your so dull without me
Come on just a sip you can do that
What right has your friends partner etc got to tell you you cant drink
And on and on it goes....well done you will feel exhausted no doubt from the mental battle but you overcome and beat it nonetheless it does get easier and gradually the alcohol demon or voice gets quiter and quieter till it only sounds like a weak feeble creature
Proud of you

I used to drink the booze left around the house, sitting at room temperature, because I couldn't stand to "waste it". One time I spit out a spider from a can of cider, but never stopped the habit. It disgusted my wife.

After I got sober, I went out to the cabin in the woods that I used to go out to and spend days, isolated, in a drunken stupor.

I took all the beer and vodka and whiskey, and other paraphernalia, and flushed it and poured it out, and took a whole garbage bag to a dumpster and got rid of it.

I look back on that now as one of my proudest moments in getting clean and sober.

You really should feel good about that.

Happened to me about a month ago. 4 bottles in garage - and was just about 50 days sober. The squirrels were chasing each other around in my head. Walked away and someone later helped me pour them out.

I suspect this may happen for a bit. When the snow finally melted I was finding dead soldiers all around outside. Fortunately no wounded warriors were still waiting for me.

Doublebarrel. A spider? That's nothing. Try finding an open beer in the basement and drinking from it only to discover a mold cake had already grown on it. Would have preferred a spider. How nuts is that?????!!!!!!

Hang in there Mish
