I'm afraid to leave the house.

I'm afraid to leave my house because I'm afraid that I might be tempted to go to the nearest convenience store for alcohol. I do go out but it's for a limited amount of time. I just feel like I need to avoid most social interaction because I might be tempted to drink and I don't want to go down that road anymore. I am using SR for support and some other support websites. It helps. At some time in the future I want to be able to feel confident enough that being around others won't stress me out.

Hi Kissimee,

I can imagine how that would be. I think for me, it would help to have a plan to follow, for a while anyway, until I was comfortable with going out. Do you have any friends who don't drink? Do you have any hobbies, or interests you can focus on intently, to get yourself back out there? Perhaps after successful outings for a while, you may feel more at ease.

I love museums, art, nature, painting, birdwatching. Do you go to AA meetings or something like that? I understand that they have get togethers, which would give you some social fun.

good luck to you, and good for you, for taking care of yourself!

Hi, I found that being prepared for the temptation and having a plan made it much easier. I hope you can shop at the store again if you get your mind ready.

I keep forgetting that simple tool. Have a plan!

Thanks
